Where We Send Our Guests: Our Favourite Local Spots

We’re often asked: “Where should we go while we’re here?”

The honest answer is… it depends. Some days, the best thing is to stay right where you are, a cup of tea in hand with the view unfolding just outside the window. But when the mood strikes to venture out, these are the places we return to again and again. Tried, trusted, and loved by us and our guests.

Sustrans Route 647 - The Old Railway Line, Harby. Doddington & Harby sign

For a slow meander: The old railway line

Just down the road in Harby, you’ll find one of our favourite ways to slow down: a peaceful, traffic-free path that forms part of the Sustrans National Cycle Network. Route 647 stretches out in both directions, and you can make your wander as long or as short as you like.

Take a left and you’ll find yourself heading toward the Fledborough Viaduct.

Turn right, and the path leads toward Old Hag Wood, Doddington Hall and even on to Lincoln if you feel like a longer cycle or walk.

No pressure, no pace - just you and the countryside.

Bottle & Glass Harby meal and glass of red wine

For a good meal and a great atmosphere: The Bottle and Glass

Welcoming, local, just the right mix of cosy and lively.

Our beloved local pub, The Bottle and Glass, is the kind of place where you feel immediately at ease. In colder months, the fires crackle and the low-lit corners invite you to stay a little longer. In summer, the garden hums with conversation and little ones playing.

It’s unpretentious, welcoming, and just really good - whether you’re sharing plates with friends, catching up with family, or simply craving a delicious meal.

Book ahead if you can. It’s popular, and for good reason.

Old Rectory Spa massage treatment

For deep rest: Spa experiences nearby

When rest is what’s needed, or as a meaningful way to reconnect with friends or family, we often recommend guests just down the road to Old Rectory Spa. It’s a calm, grounded space where you can fully exhale.

Here, you’ll find thoughtful treatments, exclusive spa packages and full day private hire with time to linger between sessions in the hot coals sauna, outdoor hot tub, cold water therapy shower and peaceful relaxation room. For something extra special, Afternoon Tea in the lounge makes the experience feel all the more restorative.

For groups of eight or more on Saturdays, their sister site - Old Farm Spa in Harby - is a beautiful walled garden retreat you can have entirely to yourselves. Intimate and relaxed, it offers a slower pace of connection. A dedicated therapist will guide you through the day, with personalised treatments for each guest.

Doddington Hall & Gardens

For a walk with purpose (and treats at the end): Doddington Hall & Gardens

You can walk here from either The Cherry Tree or The Wild Cherry Hideaway. Allow just over an hour each way for a gentle stroll through the countryside - or - if you'd rather save your steps for exploring once you arrive, it's just a few minutes by car.

Doddington Hall is a beautiful blend of heritage, creativity and connection to the land. Explore the historic house and gardens, join a seasonal event, or book in for something a little different like a rewilding safari or padel session. There are estate walks, bike hire, a brilliant café and restaurant, farm shop and several thoughtfully curated spaces to explore.

It’s a place to meander, to eat well, to pick up something special and to linger, without needing a plan.

Lincoln Cathedral, uphill Lincoln, Cathedral Quarter

For a day with depth: Historic Lincoln

Just 15 minutes away by car, Lincoln offers something a little different. A touch of city energy wrapped in rich history and independent charm.

We recommend heading to the Cathedral Quarter and Bailgate areas, where cobbled streets lead to breathtaking views of the castle and cathedral. Steep Hill lives up to its name, but it’s worth the climb! Lined with one-of-a-kind shops, antiques, local food, interiors, art and more.

It’s ideal for a morning or afternoon out with just enough bustle to feel like an adventure, and just enough calm to not feel overwhelming.

Your own kind of stay

All of these places are nearby, but none are required. Some guests tick off a few; others prefer to stay curled up with a book and a second cup of coffee.

We’re always here if you need more ideas, where we’re happy to offer our guidance on directions, bookings, or local tips. But for now, take your time - the best things are right here, waiting.
